Custom responsive WordPress theme design and development project for a Public Sector organisation, via an eConsultancy Top 100 Digital agency.
We were approached by a Digital Agency we work with to design and develop a custom WordPress theme for one of their Public Sector clients. The agency’s internal development team were busy, yet they didn’t want to lose the client by sending them elsewhere. Therefore, because it was a smaller project which was going to be more hassle than it was worth for them to do in-house, they sent us the brief and allowed us to work collaboratively with the client to design, project manage and develop their new website.
We were given email addresses by our agency partner, so that the client considered us to be part of the in-house team, and they also provided us with hosting, support and a point of contact for escalation of issues. We used the agency’s Jira account for ticketing of issues and bug fixes.
The website we were to design and develop had to adhere to strict branding and design guidelines, so we had to balance this with creating a fresh look and feel. The main purpose of the site was to act as a central repository for all of the news from the different business areas and to direct users to the appropriate sites for those individual business areas. We designed a clean, responsive layout which we marked up in HTML and CSS, then integrated into the WordPress CMS.
We also customised an off-the-shelf WordPress content syndication plugin and developed a custom Drupal version to allow news stories to be pulled through to the central website using XML-RPC. This then creates news posts on the central site which, when clicked, take the user through to the original post on the individual business area website.
Other features included slide out navigation, a contact form modal, and a sticky social media block on the side of the screen.
The client was extremely pleased with the design, process and end result. The project was delivered both on time and on budget.
